Isabelle Legeron
Born and brought up on a vineyard in the southwest of France, Isabelle Legeron is the sixth generation of a Cognac producing family. Wine runs in her blood.
This background has left her with an extraordinary enthusiasm to make wine simple and help others fall as madly in love with it as she is. Her have-a-go spirit and contagious passion are enlightening. She is an exceptional, award winning wine taster but best of all she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s great fun and loves adventure. In fact, she’s a breath of fresh air in the all too rarefied world of wine.
This fervour, zest and zeal for all things wine-related has formed the basis of her international reputation as a wine expert with an interest in, and vast knowledge of, wines from all over the world. “I love the little quirks that make each one unique so I’m just going to keep on exploring!” (Isabelle).
Isabelle is on course to become France’s first female Master of Wine (MW), the highest accolade the wine world has to offer.
Thanks to projects she’s been involved with all over the world, Isabelle has a vast array of international experience, both in organising wine events and in communicating about wine to different audiences. “Wine is actually very simple. The glass speaks for itself. It’s just that sometimes it needs a little translation” (Isabelle).
Isabelle’s fourth series of ‘Journey into Wine‘ is currently being broadcast on Travel Channel (available in 117 countries and 15 languages around the world), which has seen her exploring the world’s vineyards, their unique histories and cultures, from South Africa, to Spain, Portugal, Australia and now central & eastern Europe. As of 2008, Isabelle’s wine series is also available on CNBC.
She has also made regular appearances on UKTV's celebrated Great Food Live, Sky One's Taste and Destination Lunch as well as appearing on Australia’s ABC News and the UK’s BBC Newsnight and BBC Breakfast.
Isabelle regularly judges wines for a variety of organisations and magazines, such as Decanter (including both the World Wine Awards and regular panel tastings), The International Wine Challenge (where she is a senior judge), the Concours Mondial, the Concours des Saveurs in Cognac and the Michelangelo competition in South Africa. She also leads sell-out courses at The Wine School, which she co-founded with London's Divertimenti store. Earlier this year Isabelle also won the title of Wine Woman of the Year 2009; a biennial international competition in Paris designed to acknowledge the most talented woman in the wine trade.
